What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form of natural healthcare with the focus on treatment without the use of drugs or medicines.  Doctors of Chiropractic are known as chiropractors and are primary healthcare providers licensed and recognized by governmental healthcare programs such as Medicaid, Workers Compensation insurance programs and more.

Every year, millions of Americans visit chiropractors as part of their regular healthcare routine. With more than 84,000 licensed chiropractors practicing nationwide, plus the number of chiropractic students currently enrolled in chiropractic schools like Palmer Chiropractic College, it is the fastest growing healthcare profession

A chiropractor is involved in the treatment and prevention of disease and the promotion of public health and wellness approach.  The practice and procedures that are employed by chiropractors are learned both at the academic level plus the clinical training received and accredited through the chiropractic college.

Chiropractors frequently treat individuals with problems involving the spine, headaches, joint pain, neck pain, low back pain and sciatica.  Chiropractors also treat patients with osteoarthritis, spinal disk conditions, carpel tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sprains, and strains.  The scope of health conditions that chiropractors manage or provide care for is not limited to the common problems listed above.  Chiropractors also have the qualifications and training to treat conditions such as allergies, asthma, digestive disorders and many other conditions as new research develops.

When should I see a Chiropractor?

Many people think they only need to see a chiropractor when they are suffering from back or neck pain, but the truth is that regular visits to a chiropractor are vital to maintaining sound health and fitness.  Everyday events such as improperly lifting an object, sleeping in the wrong position or putting strain on the spine causing subluxation, which then leads to an unbalanced spine. Regular visits to a chiropractor can help keep your spine with its 24 moveable vertebrae properly aligned and healthy.

Additionally, there are other times when visiting a chiropractor helps you remain healthy. Pregnant women should definitely seek chiropractic care during pregnancy to help relieve the stress on the body from the additional weight of the growing baby.  These visits will help lower the incidences of pain in the low back that pregnant women often experience, as well as reducing the headaches that can accompany the period of pregnancy.

Following birth, the infant should be checked by a chiropractor to discover if there are any problems that might have occurred during gestation or birth.  If problems to the infant are left uncorrected after birth, there is a chance of vertebral subluxation having a negative effect on the delicate spinal cord and nerves which control the muscles and organs.
